Minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice

Through this minor, students will gain sociological understanding of a variety of issues related to crime, deviance, law, and criminal justice. This course work will help prepare students who wish to work in a variety of fields, including those related to the criminal legal system.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

• Critique individualist explanations of social phenomena by locating them within broader societal patterns.

• Analyze the links between individuals, societies and systems.

• Express sociological ideas clearly and effectively in written and verbal formats.

• Develop critical thinking and teamwork skills.

• Demonstrate sociological research skills.

Effective Fall 2020

Students must satisfactorily complete the total credits required for the minor. Minors and interdisciplinary minors require 12 or more upper-division (300- to 400-level) credits.

Additional coursework may be required due to prerequisites.

Students must receive a grade of C or higher for each course counting toward the minor.
