Our mission is to develop professionals within the community who approach the work of serving communities, agencies, families, and individuals from the perspective and fundamentals of the Social Work profession. Students who complete a minor in Social Work will have foundational knowledge to provide support and assistance based on the National Association of Social Workers code of ethics.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this minor, students will have:

  1. Foundational knowledge of the profession of Social Work within the context of diverse individuals, families, communities, and organizations.
  2. Knowledge and skills for expanding the empowerment of individuals, families, and communities through anti-oppressive approaches.

Effective Fall 2026

Students must satisfactorily complete the total credits required for the minor. Minors and interdisciplinary minors require 12 or more upper-division (300- to 400-level) credits.

Additional coursework may be required due to prerequisites.

A minimum grade of C (2.000) is required in each course used to satisfy the requirements of this minor. Courses used as substitutions also require a minimum grade of C (2.000).
