The Environmental Sociology Minor focuses on areas such as water, social justice, climate change, natural resources, social inequalities, agricultural systems, politics & governance, green criminology, global change, and food justice.

Through this minor, students will gain sociological understanding of a variety of issues related to the natural environment and related regulatory and institutional contexts, environmental inequalities and injustices, and solutions to them. Energy, food, water, and other environmental systems are central to this minor. This coursework will help prepare students who wish to work in a variety of fields, including those related to environmental sustainability, environmental and social justice, environmental agencies and non-profits, and environmental regulations.

Effective Fall 2025

Each course used to satisfy requirements of the minor requires a minimum grade of C (2.000).

Additional coursework may be required due to prerequisites.

Students must satisfactorily complete the total credits required for the minor. Minors and interdisciplinary minors require 12 or more upper-division (300- to 400-level) credits.
